Dorothy

So who is Dorothy?
Dorothy is my mom.  She grew up in a time with no cell phones, no email, IM, or texting and calling long distance was expensive.  So she wrote.  She wrote letters, cards, and notes in church bulletins that were sent to college students and shut-ins….she just wrote.  And if you were one of the blessed to get a card/letter from Dorothy, you would see her handwriting covering every vacant space available.  Dorothy didn’t just sign her name, she wrote an epistle.  In everything.  And don’t try to out-give her, either!  If someone brought her a meal or a cake or any kind of gift, she would have a thank you note in the mail the same day.  AND if someone happened to send HER a thank you note, she would send a thank you note for the thank you note.  Seriously.  She may not have made the cards but she put all of herself into these gems she mailed.  As a matter of fact, as she grew older, when friends asked what she wanted for a birthday or Christmas gift, she would just ask for postage stamps…thus the word “stamps.”

The Sewing Machine
Dorothy also was a seamstress.   As a child, she made all my clothes.  She made all the clothes for my Barbie dolls.  She would sew into the wee hours of the night and our dining room (where her sewing machine lived) was constantly littered with scraps of cloth.  Hence, the word “scraps”.   Admittedly, I didn’t always appreciate the clothes she made, but she made each piece with love and tenderness.

...And that’s the story behind the name.

Family
As far as the Dixon family, Keith and I have been married 27 years.  Keith is the Associational Missionary for the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association (I affectionately call him the “Grand Poo-bah”)

We have 2 outlandishly handsome sons:  Jeremy, 24 and Jacob 22 (both single).

The other VERY important member of our family that many of you have already met is Bella.  She is the shop greeter.  She’s a 2.5 lb. yorkie mix who loves people and loves attention…she’s at the shop just about every day except Thursday (that’s her day off).
